On March 13th, 2014 the Ontario Power Generation Bantam B Selects had one mission in mind go to Gananoque and come back as champions. What a great day of hockey close games and hard working battles, late come from behind victories, as well as a championship decided by a shoot out. The Ontario Power Generation Bantam B Selects got home very late victorious.
Game 1 pitted the OPG Selects up against Embrum Panthers. 3 late first period goals sealed the fate of the Panthers as the OPG Selects skated to a 4-2 Victory. Hunter Leeman opened the scoring with 3:15 remaining in the first assisted by Thomas Harrison and Zachary Adams, then at 2:06 remaining Trewan Jodoin went the length of the ice and potted a goal assisted by Goalie James Whitworth, then at :16 Seconds left Ty Fetterly scored on a beautiful passing play from Kirkland Laperriere and Brandon Dionne. The Panthers were in complete disarray at this point and deep into the second, when the Selects netted the 4th goal by Tyson Marsolais assisted by Tegan Jodoin. With the Selects in command they let off the gas a bit and the panthers scored one in second and one in the third. Player of the Game was awarded to Kirkland Laperriere
Game 2 vs. Cal-Bath Rd Rangers The Selects came out strong scored first at 6:30 of the first Zachary Adams driving the slot was fed a nice pass from Thomas Harrison and Hunter Leeman and buried the puck. Then the Selects couldn’t get a bounce and the Rangers scored late in the first to tie it, and another half way through the second to go ahead. The Selects tried to tie it and couldn’t get a bounce. With hope fading, the Select were just minutes from a loss and going to the C final; teammates and coaches worked hard motivating each other to get some extra effort, and to not give up. Thomas Harrison tied it up with 1:24 remaining and Hunter Leeman netted the winner with: 25 seconds remaining, both goals were unassisted. The Roller Coaster Game ended with a bang and the Selects were off to the A championship at 7:30 PM.

The Championship Game vs. North Leeds Found the Selects take an early first period lead with a goal from Trewan Jodoin assisted by Kirkland Laperriere and Brandon Dionne. North Leeds bounced back to tie it half way through the period. The Selects early in the second got a go ahead goal from Thomas Harrison assisted by Zachary Adams and Hunter Leeman. North Leeds tied early in the third period. The game remained tied at the end of regulation Selects hit a few posts in the dying seconds to make it exciting. No Overtime period as tournament rules were it went straight to a shoot out.
The Selects had full confidence in their goaltender James Whitworth as in two previous attempts this season won both shoot outs only allowing one goal. North Leeds elected to shoot first and James Whitworth stuck out the right toe to make the save. Selects sent out Nathan Feddema who toe dragged and faked the goalie 3 times and buried the puck deep in the net. North Leeds second shooter lost the handle and fell no goal. Selects second shooter Brandon Dionne thought he could see some space above the goalies glove and let the shot go, but the North Leeds goalie had a very quick glove and made the save. The last shooter for North Leeds needing to score met his maker “The Wall James Whitworth” made the game winning save and the Selects emptied the benches to celebrate.
